Newspaper
Mixing bowl
Tempera paints
Flour
Water
Balloons

Instructions:
Mix the water and flour to make a paste. Tear newspaper into strips about one to two inches wide.

Dip strips into the glue and squeeze of excess.

Wrap the strips around the balloon in a criss cross layer pattern.

When the last layer is dry, pop the balloon, fill with candy and then tape the opening shut.

Pinata

You will need:
Balloons
Newspaper
String
Flour
Water
Paint and brushes

Instructions:
Blow up balloons and twist to the shape you wish to make them (see our balloon crafts page). Tie the end then twist or tape balloons together to make your shapes.

Tear newspaper into strips about one to two inches wide.

Dip the strips of newspaper in the paste and place on the balloon, smoothing out the strips.
Cover the balloon with one layer then dry. Leave a small portion of the balloon uncovered so you can pop the balloon later.
Continue adding layers until the pinata is 1/4 inch thick.

When the last layer is dry, pop the balloon, fill with candy and then tape the hole shut.

When dry and hard, paint the pinata with tempera poster paints or decorate as desired.

Paper Mache Jack O' Lantern

You will need:
A large round balloon
Newspaper
Scissors
Orange tissue paper
Black marker
1/2 Cup Flour
2 1/2 Cups water
Dish to mix up flour and water

Instructions:
Glue: Mix 1/2 cup of flour into 1/2 cup of water. Stir into 2 cups of boiling water. Simmer for about 3 minutes, then cool. (Have a parent do this)

Tear newspaper into 1 inch wide strips.

Blow up and tie the balloon.

Dip the strips of newspaper in the glue and wrap them around the balloon. Cover the balloon with at least three layers of stips. If you want it to be orange use orange tissue paper or another orange paper for the last layers.

Let Dry.

Pop the balloon and throw the balloon away.

If you wish the pumpkin to sit flat, then put a damp cloth on the bottom of it until it softens and sits flat then let it sit a few hours to dry.

Place eys, nose and a mouth on it with a black marker or cut them out.

You can fill your pumpkin with candy by inserting a hole large enough to fill it if you wish.  This could also be used as a pinata.
